To ensure that SDFU’s work remains focused on locally relevant issues requiring the urgent attention of development agencies and policymakers, SDFU has actively engaged with state-based agencies, policymakers, practitioners, and subject-matter experts who have guided deliberate processes within their respective states. Drawing on these consultations, the following key areas of concern have emerged for the Uttarakhand mountain region:
Mountain Agriculture
Water
Sustainable Habitats
Community Based Innitiative
Livelihoods and Sustainable Rural Development
Youth Engagement
Cross-cutting these thematic areas are climate change, which has significantly altered ecological systems, agricultural practices, and everyday life in mountain communities, and a youth-centric development approach, recognizing young people as critical agents of change. Youth engagement, entrepreneurship, and innovation are central to advancing agro-ecological transitions, strengthening local livelihoods, reducing distress migration, and promoting inclusive and sustainable rural development across sectors.
